Mindful Eating: We’re told about eating to live, vegan diets, fasting and all other ways to manage food, but what about practicing mindfulness when eating. Choose to make your mealtimes a time for mindfulness and meditation.
Things to avoid during mealtimes:
Logging in to streaming services
Plugging in to headphones and zoning out
Phone conversations
Things to focus on during mealtimes:
The taste of the food – understand (maybe even analyse) the flavours & savour the taste.
Take breaths between mouthfuls – observe the aroma of the food, learn the food you consume through your sense of taste and smell.
Chew around 25 times – digestion starts in the mouth, chewing stimulates protease, amylase and lipase production
Food is something we often take for granted, so make sure you extend gratitude for it through more than just prayer. Appreciate the awakening of all your senses during mealtimes and appreciate the gift of food. Give yourself time to be immersed in the moment through Mindful Eating.
