“Advancements” in Science(?)

Genetics: The study of inherited characteristics.
Genomics: The study of an organisms DNA and gene interactions.
As the 20th century came to a close, a project was started to understand more about the human genome. This project was called “The Human Genome Project”. Spanning over 13 years (1990-2003), this project provided a complete sequence of the human genome (the complete DNA in humans), giving scientists information about the blueprint of humanity.
This study was only the beginning and opened the door for more research to be conducted on the codes and building block that make humanity who and what we are.
The most recent development that has been announced in the world of Life Sciences could potentially be considered a continuation and an expansion of The Human Genome Project. Funded by the same charity, scientists have received £10 million to create “artificial DNA from scratch”, with the intent behind the project being to accelerate treatments for diseases. (Whatever happened to prevention being better than cure, surely it would be better to provide affordable, healthy food, give people (culturally appropriate) health education and create a healthcare system that isn’t all about monetary gain… but what do I know (?!)).
This project doesn’t end with treatments, though. The plan is also to create cells that are resistant to disease and to potentially 'fix' damaged organs. It’s all about using findings to manipulate and edit genes through bioengineering. This new project is called “The Synthetic Human Genome Project” and if successful, scientists may be able to do more than just create synthetic DNA, they may be able to create synthetic chromosomes!
Chromosomes: Structures within the nucleus that contain genetic information
Through these studies and experiments, scientists can understand how our DNA and genes regulate our bodies, thus potentially giving scientists control over the human body systems. Though it has been stated that there is allegedly no intention to create synthetic life, “there is nothing to stop unscrupulous scientists [from] misusing the technology”. Should a scientist choose to, “weapons of biological warfare, ‘enhanced humans’ or even creatures that have human DNA” could become a reality. With all this research being conducted and all this money being spent, surely a policy or law should have been implemented to prevent such things from happening. In fact, it’s unclear who would even have ownership over any kind of synthetic person (or part of a person) that may be created. It’s like a pot on the fire waiting to boil over, and instead of anyone turning the fire down or moving the pot all together, everyone’s just watching and waiting patiently for the mess to be made.

So whilst there are plans to create synthetic DNA and chromosomes, with no way of preventing any mad scientist from doing something diabolical, the NHS is planning to DNA test all babies to assess their risk of disease (coincidence? I think not).
Over the next 10 years, the NHS intends to test every new born baby in England to assess their risk of disease. By 2030, £650 million would be invested in DNA research for all patients. Furthermore, Genomics England plans to analyse the genome of up to 100,000 new borns, with aims to speed up diagnosis and treatments. (Fun Fact: There were approximately 100,00 participants in The Human Genome Project).
And in case all of this information wasn’t enough, there are developments for artificial wombs. Though it’s allegedly only for premature babies, what’s to stop these wombs from being used in other ways(?).
They already know how to make a baby without intercourse (IVF), fully functioning AI humanoid robots and wombs are in development, they’re collecting human genetic information by the thousands and there are no policies to stop any kind of diabolical plan from being activated.
Of course, this is just speculation on my part, but it seems rather convenient for all these plans to be rolling out simultaneously. In fact, I’ll go as far as to say these aren’t a series of convenient coincidences but more so carefully orchestrated plans that are being unfolded slowly. But let me stop speculating, lest I get called a “conspiracy theorist”.
In such times where science is rapidly advancing, it’s imperative that people are aware of what’s coming, of what’s happening, and of the powers one has (if any). Freedom of speech is not so free, but people must remember that silence is compliance! Mothers have the right to say “No” to any kind of medical interventions on their babies, and in the case where mum cannot speak for herself, fathers, you have the right to advocate for your partner/spouse and offspring.
If we choose to not pay attention to what’s happening, one day we’ll wake up and realise that our children are in classrooms with children who don’t have organic parents, but are instead the manifestation of a science experiment. We'll exist in a world in which the differences between organic and non-organic life are undetectable to the naked eye, and it would have easily unfolded under our noses because we weren't paying attention to what's important. As we become overly consumed by trivial matters that are intentionally placed in front of us as a distraction, reality will change and we'll be oblivious to the changes until its too late. Change doesn't manifest overnight, but when your not paying attention, it can feel like it does.
