A Call For Independence

When we think of oppression we understand its present circumstance,

We understand that it’s a reality that we experience in the modern world,

We understand what it means within our community,

But forget that the suffering isn’t only in the West,

It’s also in the continent that roots Mitochondrial Eve.

Oppression is something that we all know too well,

But the West has spoilt us and has us thinking that our suffering is the peak of their wickedness.

Racism is our experience in a land that thrives with ‘Others’

And that manifests as self hate, colourism, and neglect of our culture.

We often engage in diaspora wars,

Arguing about who has it worse,

Trying to win the crown of the most sufferable of them all,

The truth is, there’s a relative amount of shelter that we have in the West.

Many of us are ignorant to the brutality and wickedness that our Brothers and Sisters back home have to face.

Europe continues to drain Africa to this day,

The women remain beaten and raped,

Our men castrated because of their jealousy and hate.

Whilst our Motherland continues to be used, abused, and betrayed,

We focus all our attention and energy on white business and their happenings.

So many of our parents worked to provide generational wealth,

They acquired land and built houses,

But we reject it because its not part of the West.

We want to be saved,

We want to be seen as human,

We want equal opportunities,

We want access to resources,

We want everything,

Yet we don’t want to put in the work,

We’ve become lazy and complacent,

Acting as if the problems of Africa aren’t our own.

If your mind is too small to comprehend this message,

Then you need to seek knowledge, to understand their system.

Africa is the hub that keeps the western world afloat,

And its through its continued exploitation that they’re able to oppress the diaspora without remorse.

Africa’s people remain bent over in every corner of the globe.

Too focused on individualism to realise unity is the only way forward.

If Africa remains oppressed then how can the diaspora break free(?)

You think that laying low and remaining attached to this way of life is what our children need(?!)

When our resources are indirectly used to inflict brutality,

What makes you think our children will ever truly know peace?

When we are only teaching them subservience and dependency,

We are teaching them to remain in survival mode and to ignore the needs of the limbic system.

We remain docile and submissive to those that hate us,

And we choose to remain segregated but support all things interracial.

Our reality won’t change,

And their wickedness wont stop,

But some of you have internalised their energy,

And fail to understand,

That keeping your head down and laying low,

Is not the way for us to have freedom.

We act shocked every time they express hate and create a double standard for themselves,

We have no security in our community,

We are not organising in a way that holds them accountable for their wrongdoings and their wickedness.

We are too focused on everyone else,

Not realising that the changes start with us individually,

Black woman and Black man need to stop blaming the other,

Instead we each need to accept a portion of accountability.

Once we’ve worked through our individual toxicity,

We can then come together for the betterment of the community,

Because it’s not until we unite and work together,

That Black people and Mama Africa will truly be free.

It’s not that this is not possible,

And its not that this won’t happen in this life time,

The fact is, if those are your thoughts,

That’s a reflection of your energy and where its aligned.

There are many in the community working towards our liberty.

Armed with the knowledge of the truth:

We are stronger than them,

And we outnumber them too,

But majority of the Black community is scared of the magic that lives within,

Afraid of working together,

Because of a conditioned mindset,

That we are dysfunctional when together,

Or only functional when they are governing us.

Seldom do we critically thinking about the fact,

That we built up the society that they call their own today,

And without our collective energy,

They wouldn’t have the empire that they hold dear to them today.

So at which point will we stop asking for a seat at their table?

And at which point will we cut the attachment we have with our abuser?

At which point will we start to move militant with our actions?

At which point will we start to detach from the things that make us suffer?

At which point will we start representing ourselves?

Instead of asking them for representation,

At which point will we start to create what we desire?

Instead of wallowing and begging for their approval.

We have the money,

We have the resources,

We have the man power,

We have the energy.

So instead of looking at the glass as half empty,

We need to stop gauging reality from their perspective,

And realise that we need to start taking initiative.

We have everything we need already,

The problem is that we’re waiting on them to suddenly stop making moves.

We need to start thinking ahead,

Or don’t be surprised when they continue to treat us like fools.
